This was primitively written for children in the ghazal style of Urdu poetry and was formally known as “ Tarānah-e-Hindi ”, which means “ Anthem of the People of Hindustan ” in Urdu. It was publicly recited for the first time at Government College, Lahore, British India, which is now in Pakistan.
This anthem soon became an hymn of enemy to the british government and added wings to the exemption battle against them .

Story Behind Sare Jahan Se Accha :
Muhammad Iqbal was working at the Government College, Lahore at that time ( 1904-05 ), and was invited by a student called Lala Har Dayal to address the students. alternatively of delivering his address, the 27-year old Iqbal sang the “ Saare Jahan Se Achcha ” .
The song, not entirely had bang-up lines about the kingdom of Hindustan but besides had an elegiac quality and expressed “ cultural memory ” .

Better than the integral world, is our Hind ,
We are its nightingales, and it ( is ) our garden digest
If we are in an stranger place, the heart remains in the fatherland ,
Know us to be lone there where our heart is .
That tallest batch, that shade-sharer of the sky ,
It ( is ) our lookout, it ( is ) our watchman
In its lave where play thousands of rivers ,
Whose animation makes our garden the envy of Paradise .
O the flowing waters of the Ganges, do you remember that day
When our caravan inaugural disembarked on your waterfront ?

We are of Hind, our fatherland is Hindustan .
In a worldly concern in which ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome have all vanished
